Chivon Obiri-Mainoo has been practicing Brazilian Jiujitsu since December of 2018. Being a former collegiate athlete,, she loved how Jiujitsu gave her the same competitive feeling. In the beginning, Chivon was the only female practitioner in her school for many years. She had to work twice as hard to keep up and gain respect in a male dominated environment. Wanting to quit many times, the athlete within her wouldn’t let her do so.
During the years, Chivon has become a fierce competitor, winning many IBJJF Open competitions through Blue belt and Purple belt. She placed third at blue belt in PAN AMS in 2022. Then in 2023, she became a Purple belt World Champion and was ranked #1 in the world in her division.
